Interviewing Session

An interview is a formal discussion between the person being interviewed (the interviewee) and the person conducting the interview (the interviewer).

During the interviews, the interviewer will ask questions, and the interviewee will be expected to present correct information in order to determine whether the candidate is suited for a specific job, position, or even course of study.

The interviewee may be given the option to ask questions at the end of the interview. Interviews typically serve as a way for interviewers to gauge a candidate's social and communication skills. They also give the interviewing panel a great chance to verify the candidate's qualifications and suitability for the position for which he or she has applied.

Job interviews, research interviews, and parent-teacher interviews are all types of interviews.

For an applicant to be successful, the following points should be considered before attending the interview:

Before the interview, the interviewee should do the following:

a) Conduct background research about the organisation or company to which they have been invited for the interview.

b) Research, anticipate, or predict the most common interview questions and the right responses to them.

c) Arrive on time. Arrive at the venue a little earlier to allow yourself time to relax and compose yourself before the interview.

d) Bring all necessary documents for the interview, such as a résumé, academic certificates, and professional credentials.

e) Prepare some questions to ask if you are given the opportunity.

f) Maintain your appearance and grooming. Make an effort to appear educated, neat, and presentable.

 g) Before entering the interview room, turn off your cell phone or mobile phone.

h) Determine the location of the interview and the length of the interview before the interview day.

The interviewee should keep the following points in mind during the interview.

a) Pay close attention and do not interrupt the interviewer.

b) Be confident in yourself and your abilities.

c) Show respect to all interviewees and give them your entire attention.

d) Take the time to understand and respond to the questions. Do not stray from the question at hand.

 e) Be truthful. Do not overstate or lie about your accomplishments.

f) Respond confidently, maintain eye contact with the interviewer, and demonstrate attentiveness.

g) Be familiar with the information in your documents.

h) Do not quarrel with interviewees regarding contentious issues such as politics or religion; instead, take a non-partisan stance.

 i) Do not disparage your former boss, employees, colleagues, or lecturers. This will portray you as a troublemaker and gossiper.

Effective interviewing necessitates the ability to ask probing questions in order to determine an applicant's suitability. As a result, as an interviewer, you should adhere to the following guidelines:

Before conducting an interview, an interviewer should do the following:

a) Make a list of important questions to ask the interviewees who are present.

b) Review the applicants' resumes and other essential papers in advance.

An interviewer should do the following during the interview:

a) Concentrate on finding the best candidate.

b) Evaluate candidates' personal traits and experience with respect to the requirements.

c) Try not to talk too much.

d) Maintain eye contact with the interviewee while providing pertinent information and using proper body language.

e) Build rapport with the interviewee by making him or her feel at ease.

f) Ask open-ended questions to elicit as much information as possible from the subject. Avoid inquiries with yes-or-no answers.

f) Take notes because relying on memory can be dangerous.
